On 15 April 2016, a delegation of the University of Maribor, which included the Rector, Prof. Dr. Igor Tičar, and Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Jernej Turk,  and Mr Mladen Kraljič, visited the University of the Banja Luka.

The Rector of the University of Banja Luka, Prof. Dr. Stanko Stanić, and  the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Valerija Šaula,  and Vice -Rector for Academic and Student Issues, Prof. Dr. Simo Jokanović, hosted guests from Maribor, with Prof.Dr. Branko Dokić, the Dean of Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Banja Luka, and Mr Đorđe Markez, the Secretary General of the University, attending the meeting at the Rector's Office as well.

The results of the previous cooperation and the prospects of its expansion were discussed at the meeting, after which the signing of the Agreement on cooperation between two universities took place.

With words of welcome addressed to the guests, Rector Stanić noticed that these two universities had a very successful and fruitful cooperation until the beginning of the 1990s, and expressed the hope that by the signing of this agreement it would be returned to that level and improved in due time.

By stressing that there was no reason that this cooperation should not be further strengthened, Prof. Tičar added that the competitive advantages of the University of Maribor could and should be used in the implementation of future cooperation, that is, joint projects, since it belonged to the area of the European Union and was part of the European academic associations.

Prof. Šaula reminded the present that so far there was cooperation between these two universities, achieved through international educational projects, such as Tempus, Erasmus Mundus and the Erasmus +, adding that there was a significant potential for its improvement.

On the former good cooperation between these two universities, that is, two electrical engineering faculties, Prof.  Dokić gave his opinion, noting that the  space  for cooperation should be sought through the organization of regional doctoral studies, in addition to the partnership in European projects.

During their stay at the University of Banja Luka, the members of the delegation of the University of Maribor had the opportunity to visit the Campus and the Institute of Genetic Resources with their hosts, as well as the laboratories of Mechanical Engineering, and to gain a better insight into the work of individual organizational units of our University.
