Opening ceremony of the Faculty of Security Science

On the solemn ceremony, held on March 6, 2017, the Faculty of Security Science marked the beginning of its existence as the 18th organizational unit of the University of Banja Luka, having been transformed from the College of Interior functioning within the respective ministry of the Government of the Republic of Srpska.

The tradition of educating staff to serve the needs of the Ministry has been a long-term one, dating back to 1992 and a two-year college at the time, which turned into a four-year one in 2002, functioning from 2012 as an associate member unit of the University.
The significance of such an institution is enormous at the time when security can no longer be considered the sole matter of state, in terms of police or army, but is multi-dimensional, so we now talk of ecological, economic, energy, private security, pointed the acting dean, Mr Predrag Ceranic, assistant professor.

On behalf of the University, Rector Milan Mataruga addressed the present, explaining the efforts of both the University bodies, on the one side, and the Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Education and Culture, on the other side, to fulfil all the necessary procedures in the past 18 months in order to establish the Faculty.

In addition, Mr Dragan Lukac, the Minister of Interior in the Government of the Republic of Srpska, emphasized the importance of the Faculty in terms of strngthening the capacities of the Ministry and other related institutions, reminding the present of the fact that more than 1,175 candidates had graduated from the College so far, the majority of them having been employed in various positions within the Ministry organizational units. For them, the Faculty means the possibility of pursuing further academic knowledge and skills in master's and PhD degree studies.
