Faculty of Economics Marked 45 Years of Work

On 6 February 2020, the Faculty of Economics, University of Banja Luka, marked 45 years of successful work and development.

On that occasion, 110 bachelor graduates and 13 master’s graduates were promoted.

Rector of the University of Banja Luka Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, reminded in his speech that in the past four and a half decades the Faculty of Economics has grown into the largest and most eminent educational and scientific institution in the field of economic sciences in the Republic of Srpska.

,,During all this time, it has engendered more than six thousand bachelors of economics, several hundred masters of economics and 85 doctors of economics, who have left a strong imprint in the economic development of the Republic of Srpska ever since its inception, and by performing numerous functions and duties in the RS  bodies and institutions they had a significant role in the social and political life of our Republic, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina in its entirety’’, Rector Gajanin said at the ceremony dedicated to 45 years of this higher education institution.

Rector expressed hope that the Faculty of Economics will follow the same upward development path in the forthcoming years as all these past years, and that by educating high-quality staff in the field of economic sciences, it will continue contributing to the development of the Republic of Srpska.

He especially congratulated the graduates who received their diplomas today. 

,,I am convinced that among the masters and bachelors of economics who are being promoted today there are future holders of significant functions and directors of companies’’, Gajanin said.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Radovan Viskovic emphasizes that the Faculty of Economics at the University of Banja Luka is extremely important for the educational system and development of the Republic of Srpska.

,,Everyone who graduated from this faculty has made a great contribution to the development of the Republic of Srpska. I expect that this significant institution will continue to educate high-quality staff, and by investing in knowledge the Republic of Srpska Government is investing in the future of the society'', Viskovic said and emphasized that young people who choose to study at public universities will have maximum support of the Republic of Srpska Government.

Prime Minister Viskovic stressed that the new Law on Higher Education will improve the quality of studying in the Republic of Srpska.

Prime Minister Viskovic reminded that this law also provides for that all full-time students of public higher education institutions in the Republic of Srpska, who regularly pass their exams without renewing the year will as of this year study free of charge, regardless of whether they are undergraduates or postgraduates.

,,This is a great help from the Government of the Republic of Srpska and in this way we want the conditions of study at our two public universities to be of the highest quality and to improve our educational system", Viskovic noted.

RS Minister for Scientific and Technological Development, Higher Education and Information Society Srdjan Rajcevic emphasized that the Faculty of Economics at the University of Banja Luka is a prestigious higher education institution.

,,It is certain that progress in the education system will be visible after the new law on higher education and the law on quality assurance in higher education get adopted. Congratulations to this significant institution for 45 years of successful work“, Rajcevic said.

Dean of the Faculty of Economics Prof. Stanko Stanic, PhD, says that this faculty is one of the leading faculties at the University.
,,It is certain that in 45 years of work we have shown the responsibility of professors and assistants to the community in which we operate. We have contributed to the development of the community and economy, as well as life in the Republic of Srpska. In the forthcoming period, we will, together with our colleagues from East Sarajevo, offer the Republic of Srpska Government to work together on the development strategy of the Republic of Srpska’’,  Stanic said.

Dean Stanic emphasized that altogether 1,130 students study at the Faculty of Economics, at all three study cycles. 
The Faculty of Economics awarded the meritorious employees of this higher education institution, as well as undergraduates and postgraduates. Moreover, one-off Radovan Ribic Foundation cash awards were presented.

Prior to the beginning of the ceremony dedicated to 45 years of the Faculty of Economics, a bust of the first dean of this faculty Prof. Jovan Rodic, PhD, was placed in front of the building of this higher education institution. The bust, the work of the academic sculptor Bojan Mikulic, was ornamented by Rector of the University of Banja Luka Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Banja Luka Prof. Stanko Stanic, PhD, and Prof. Dragan Mikerevic, PhD.

The solemn academy was on behalf of the University also attended by Vice Rector for International and Interuniversity Cooperation Prof. Biljana Antunovic, PhD, Vice Rector for Scientific Research and University Development Prof. Goran Latinovic, PhD, President of the Steering Board Prof. Rajko Gnjato, PhD, Secretary General Djordje Markez, PhD, Financial Director Dusko Lazic, the deans of organizational units, public figures from RS  and guests from the region.
