Students, faculty and staff of the University of Banja Luka clean up flooded areas – 21 May 2014

Like the previous days, students and employees of the University of Banja Luka took part in the clean up of flooded buildings in Doboj, Modriča, Prijedor and Banja Luka yesterday. While working in very difficult conditions, they have maximised their efforts to help bring life back to normal in those cities.

Representatives of the UNBL Floor Relief Coordination Headquarters – Vice-Chancellor Draško Marinkovic, President of the Headquarters, Vice-Chancellor Milan Mataruga, and Nemanja Todorović, a UNBL Student Parliament representative, visited yesterday the students and employees of the Academy of Arts of the University of Banja Luka, cleaning up the Centre for Culture and Education, and the students engaged in cleaning the rooms of tje Transport Engineering Faculty and Health Center in Doboj. In addition, they visited the UNBL students engaged in cleaning up the refugee settlement Dobor in Modriča. Yesterday, they were also visited by Igor Radojičić, President of the National Assembly of RS, and Mladen Krekić, Modriča Mayor, who praised the efforts of the students and complimented them on their excellent conscience and sense of responsibility.



Compliments and words of gratitude have been received on a daily basis by all other students of UNBL departments / Academy of Arts / Police College, who have been engaged for days on the territory of Doboj, Modriča, Prijedor and Banja Luka.
Today, on 22 May 2014, volunteers of the University of Banja Luka will be sent again to a number of locations in the flooded areas. In Doboj, 250 students are already engaged in cleaning up the facilities of the Health Centre, Prosecutor’s Office and Transport Engineering Faculty, and will join forces today with employees of the Faculty of Economics, University of Banja Luka.



In Prijedor, 50 students of the University of Banja Luka have been sent to Gomjenica, a local neighbourhood, and another 70 to the Banja Luka neighbourhoods of Lazarevo and Česma.

As pointed out by Vice-Chancellor Marinković, President of the UNBL Flood Relief Headquarters, all activities of the students, staff and faculty in the field have been carried out in agreement with and according to the needs of the Doboj Emergency Headquarters, headed by General Zec, Commissioner of the RS Government, and Civil Protection Headquarters in Prijedor and Banja Luka.



The photos below taken in the field show the magnitude of the disasterous floods, but they also testify to the enthusiasm and solidarity of the volunteers of Banja Luka University.
