Learning objectives | ||||
Introduction with the basic concepts of geology, composition, age and history of the Earth, geotectonic theories, petrogenic and ore minerals, rocks of the lithosphere, geological maps and geological structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Then, introduction with economic mineral resources, their use, distribution in nature, with engineering-geological and hydrogeological characteristics of the soil, with the aim of correct planning and management of specific space. The goal of studying the subject is to integrate the acquired knowledge with other professional subjects of the study program through the realization of the program of lectures and exercises.
Learning outcomes | ||||
Through the implementation of the curriculum, students will acquire theoretical knowledge about the Earth and the Earth's crust, its composition, structure, age, endodynamic and exodynamic processes that occur in and on it. Through practical examples (specimens of rocks in the collection), students will master the basic concepts of rock types, their formation, composition, minerals from which they are built, classifications and other characteristics, and what is very important, they will be able to distinguish and recognize them. Introduction with the geological compass, different types of geological maps (their content) and accompanying interpreters, then with geological structures (folds, faults, etc.), will be practically demonstrated through the implementation of the exercise program "Drawing a geological map based on points of geological observation". , "Geological column" and "Geological profile". Students will master the basic knowledge of engineering geology, hydrogeology, geoecology, the processes that led to the formation of various deposits of mineral resources, the connection of processes with the soil, then specific geological graphics and terminology. Through exercises, seminar papers and field teaching, knowledge about the practical application of geology and geological documentation will be acquired as a basis for the preparation of spatial plans and other project technical documentation.

Teaching Methods | ||||
Monological and dialogic method with graphics and examples. Exercises from teaching units dealing with minerals and rocks will be performed on specimens from the mineralogical-petrographic collection.
Evaluation and grading
Knowledge is tested through homework (seminar work) and a colloquium. The first colloquium (determination of rocks and minerals found in the mineralogical-petrographic collection) is taken orally. The second colloquium is written with the topic "Drawing a geological map based on points of geological observation and geological profile". The final exam is taken orally, along with the pre-exam requirements.
Specific remarks | ||||
The knowledge acquired exercises and lectures needs to be completed with a field insight into the characteristic profiles of rocks and ore deposits. If possible, it would be good to get to know yourself with the work of the stone laboratory and the geomechanical laboratory, as well as visit the Seismic Sector at the Hydrometeorological Institute of the Republic of Srpska. |
