Learning objectives
The course is an introduction to the field of urban planning through the definition of its basic methodology, which is theoretically and practically developed, with a focus on the urban system of the city and the physical structure. The course is oriented towards an integrated approach to planning and the role of spatial planners in the process of urban planning, with reference to the current legislation and planning practice in the Republic of Srpska.
Learning outcomes
Future graduate spatial planners master the methodology of urban planning and interpretation of legal regulations on the basis of which they can actively participate in the process of urban planning and spatial development management; recognize the elements of urban systems, the way they interact and their connection with strategic planning at the regional and national levels. They acquire basic knowledge about the historical development of cities, aspects of urban space and the typology of physical structures; recognize their role in multidisciplinary planning teams, understand the social and economic context of urban space and the dynamics of change in it.
Content
Introduction to the subject and field of research; A brief overview of the historical development of cities; The city as a complex phenomenon; Theoretical orientations and methodologies of city planning; Legislative framework of urban planning in RS; System of spatial planning documentation and types of plans at the urban level; Information and documentation basis in urban planning; Analysis of the situation in urban space: natural characteristics, physical structure, social and economic aspects of urban space; City infrastructure; Plan conceptualization; Implementation and monitoring of implementation plans; Participatory planning.
Teaching Methods
Integrated teaching in the form of lectures, practical exercises, field work and consultations.
