Learning objectives
Acquiring specific knowledge through the analysis of dynamic components of natural movement and spatial mobility of the population, and their spatial-temporal interdependence, which conditions contemporary changes and processes in demographic development. The focus of the study is on the analysis of the structural characteristics of fertility, mortality and migration of the population, as well as on making projections of demographic development in the specific area.
Learning outcomes
Students should acquire special skills for collecting relevant data on the population, the ability to analyze in detail the current natural and mechanical components of the movement, as well as the projection of the future movement of the population. Analyzes of current demographic processes and problems with the correct selection of demographic methods and techniques are addressed on concrete examples and case studies, which acquires specific knowledge about the role and importance of determinants of demographic development in order to implement adequate population policy measures.
Content
Importance of demographic research. Primary and secondary sources of population data - methodology and method of processing. Population statistics. Using program packages and software in demographic research. Determinants of population fertility. Fertility tables - method of preparation and application. Population reproduction. Determinants of population mortality. Mortality tables - method of preparation and application. Depopulation - types and trends. General methodological problems and theoretical approaches in considering population migrations. Data sources and indicators of migration analysis. Typology and selectivity of migration. Methods and models of migration research. Functional population contingents. Typology of households. Typology of family planning. Methods and manner of making demographic projections. Demographic theories and models. Contemporary determinants of the demographic development of the Republic of Srpska. Experiences of population policy and family planning in the Republic of Srpska. Basic demographic processes and the future of the population of the Republic of Srpska.
Teaching Methods
Acquiring specific knowledge about contemporary demographic processes and problems, through space-time interdependence caused by changes in population dynamics. Professional knowledge and skills will be provided through lectures, exercises, consultations and practical training through a visit to the Republic Institute for Statistics of the Republic of Srpska. During the exercises, seminar papers are processed, which include case studies, and demographic statistics are analyzed using appropriate demographic methods.

Evaluation and grading
Knowledge verification is done in writing (test) during the semester. The final exam is written (test) and oral. A submitted and defended seminar paper on the exercises is a condition for taking the written test, that is, the oral exam.
