Conference on challenges of scholarly work in humanities and social studies at universities of Western Balkans

University of Banja LukaGeneral

On March 7, 2017, the conference titled 'The challenges of scholarly work in humanities and social studies at universities of Western Balkans' was held at the University of Banja Luka, gathering prominent scholars, representatives of line ministries and other institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia, with the aim of identifying the roots of unfavourable results of scholarly work in the fields of humanities and social studies.

As it was pointed out, the overall conditions for this kind of academic endeavour are poor, with low rate of investment and overload of teaching activities, leaving little room for research. In order to address these issues, the participants recommended the introduction of gradual and clear changes to raise the level of academic output, development of objective assessment and encouragement of cooperation at all levels, especially international ones, such as networking, COST actions, Erasmus+ exchange programmes, participation at multidisciplinary conferences.
