Professor Luka Kecman, PhD, Dismissed from His Post
University of Banja LukaGeneralAt its 42nd extraordinary session held on 3 October 2019, the Senate of the University of Banja Luka relieved Professor Luka Kecman, PhD, of duty as the vice rector for human and material resourses of the University of Banja Luka.
Altogether 23 members voted in favour of Kecman's dismissal, two were against, and one Senate member abstained.
Rector of the University of Banja Luka, Professor Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, said that the dismissal of Kecman, who is also a professor at the Academy of Arts, was the only item of the agenda at the extraordinary session of the University Senate.
,,The members of the Senate showed responsibility and academic level in decision making and they put their full trust in me as the proponent of such a decision. The members of the Senate decided by a large majority to dismiss Vice Rector Kecman’’, Rector Gajanin said.
He explained that professors and assistants who have any stain on their careers cannot be in the management of the University.
,,That is the reason why I convened this extraordinary session of the Senate and I thank the academic community and the members of the Senate for their tremendous support,’’ Rector said.
He pointed out that, before this case, Professor Luka Kecman, PhD, had been acting for the benefit of the University of Banja Luka and that he had made efforts to raise its reputation.
,,However, in the last couple of months his activities were tarnishing the reputation of the University of Banja Luka, especially the latest facts published by the media, and persons with such mortgage in their professional and academic careers can thus no longer be engaged here’’, Rector Gajanin pointed out.
He also referred to the fact that the media has been reporting about numerous problems in Kecman’s academic career and his bad behaviour towards students as well as reckless public statements, and that there had been numerous disciplinary procedures against Professor Kecman, also charged with bribery.
