Professor Gordana Đurić at the Conference of the Parties on Biological Diversity

Gordana Đurić, PhD, full professor at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Banja Luka, is part of the delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina that is participating in the Conference of the Parties on Biological Diversity from 7 to 19 December in Montreal.

Within this conference of the parties, governments from around the world and members of the conference discuss and guide global actions to preserve biodiversity and establish sustainable use of natural resources, with a focus on the global framework for biodiversity for the period after 2020.

The delegation from Bosnia and Herzegovina, in addition to Prof. Đurić, who is also the Nagoya Protocol ABS National Focal Point, comprises Assistant Minister for Environment in the FBH Ministry of Environment and the Biological Diversity Convention Focal Point Mehmed Cero, Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BH Mirza Hujić, full professor at the Faculty of  Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Sarajevo and the SBSTTA Focal Point Senka Barudanović, PhD, Head of the GMO and Animal Feed Department at the Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety Focal Point Armin Čolaković, Biological Diversity Convention National Focal Point Assistant Adla Kahrić.

In 1992, in Rio de Janeiro, government leaders from around the world reached agreements on the approval of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity. It is a convention that provides a global legal framework for action in the field of biological diversity protection and strives to achieve its three main goals, namely: the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of the components of biological diversity, and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out f the utilization of genetic resources.
