Science Conference Held at the University of Banja Luka

The science conference of the University of Banja Luka, at which scientific papers published in international reference journals and projects whose authors or coordinators were awarded by the University were presented, was held on 12 November 2024.

Vice-Rector for Scientific Research and Development of the University of Banja Luka Prof. Aleksandar Ostojić, PhD, said that this conference was one of the most important annual events.

"The conference has been held for six years and is the result of a competition intended for the professors and teaching assistants of the University. Its goal is for young colleagues to get to know how their older colleagues prepare scientific papers and apply for projects", the vice-rector explained during this event at the Student Cultural Centre of the University of Banja Luka.

As for the amount of the cash awards, the vice-rector pointed out that in the category of assigning the cash awards to professors and teaching assistants who are the authors of indexed research papers, altogether 75 were awarded with the total fund for the cash awards of BAM 82,000.

"Altogether 16 professors and teaching assistants who are managers, coordinators or participants of international research projects were awarded with BAM 9,500. As for the third category referring to professors and teaching assistants who are coordinators or contact persons for the Erasmus+ projects – Key Action 2 – Capacity Building, three of them were assigned the cash awards of BAM 2,100 total", the vice-rector says and emphasizes that a cash award was assigned for an international artistic creation that took place last year .

"It is a cash award of BAM 1,000 that was assigned to the full professor of the Academy of Arts Branka Radošević Mitrović, MA", Vice-Rector Ostojić said.

Assistant Minister for Scientific and Technological Development Zoran Bjelajac said that the Ministry will continue to support, as part of its competitions and incentives, scientific research and the advancement of the scientific research structure of the Republic of Srpska.

Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy Slavica Tutnjević, PhD, was awarded for coordinating and leading an international project funded by the Horizon Europe programme. Tutnjević says that such awards are significant because they give recognition to the work and efforts that professors invest in the development of science.

Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Dragana Šnjegota, PhD, stated that her paper "Phylogeographic Reconstruction of the Wolf Position" was awarded, adding that she studies the wolf as a species. She pointed out that she is glad that someone recognized the work and commitment of the professors, and that the awards are additional motivation for future research.

Rector of the University of Banja Luka Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, greeted the present at the conference organized in honour of 49th anniversary of the University, which was attended by the Adviser to the President of the Republic of Srpska, Asst. Prof. Nina Sajić, PhD, and vice-rectors of the University, president and members of the Steering Board, Prof. Biljana Antunović, PhD, professors and employees at the University.
