Marking of the Day of the Faculty of Philology

The Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Prof. Biljana Babić, PhD, pointed out that this higher education institution continues to show the significance of philological disciplines in the academic and social context of the Republic of Srpska, BiH, and the region.
Prof. Babić said that, besides the philosophical disciplines, the philology disciplines are a foundation of any society.
“The interest in philology exists in our environment, and the prospects are also good, for with additional education, opportunities for employment of future generations are numerous,” said Babić to journalists in Banja Luka, at the occasion of commemorating the Day of the Faculty of Philology – St. Cyril and Methodius.
The Rector of the University of Banja Luka, Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, said that the Faculty of Philology commemorates 16 years of its successful work, offering studying the world’s languages – Russian, English, German, French, Italian, Chinese and Serbian.
According to his words, the Faculty of Philology is prominent in its international cooperation, where a lot of professors, assistants and students go for exchange programs to various universities worldwide, which is one of strategic goals of this institution.
“The leadership is making sure this faculty gets better every day. We have technical conditions and space, but it is not enough, as lately we have opened a significant number of new study programs. The study program Synology was opened, and it is growing every year.
A professor at the University of Prishtina with a temporary seat in Kosovska Mitrovica, Valentina Pitulić, PhD, in her keynote speech for the Day of the Faculty of Philology, spoke about the importance of preserving the Serbian language and Cyrillic alphabet. She pointed out that we should not despair in difficult times, but find the strength in language and the writing system.
“The point of my message is – through faith, hope, and love, one can bear anything,” said Pitulić.
At the formal event held at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Banja Luka, letters of gratitude were handed over to the deserving individuals. It was attended by the Vice-Rector of the University, Prof. Dalibor Kesić, PhD, and Assistant Minister of Scientific Technological Development of the Republic of Srpska, Zoran Bjelajac.
