A cooperation agreement between the University of Banja Luka and the Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution of Higher Education “First Moscow State Medical University I.M. Sechenov” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (Sechenov University) was signed on May 5, 2026, at the Rectorate of the University of Banja Luka.
The agreement was signed by the Rector of the University of Banja Luka, Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, and the Director of the Institute of Cluster Oncology and Head of the Department of Oncology, Radiotherapy and Reconstructive Surgery at Sechenov University, Prof. Igor Vladimirovich Reshetov, PhD.
The document provides for cooperation in the field of student education, the implementation of international projects, and joint scientific research, with a particular focus on oncology. The agreement also includes medical consultations and the possibility of treating patients in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Srpska.
Rector Gajanin emphasized the particular importance of the exchange of academic staff and students, as well as additional education in the field of oncological surgery.
“It would be very beneficial to apply the treatment methods used at the Russian university in the care of oncology patients in the Republic of Srpska,” Rector Gajanin stated following the signing of the agreement.
He added that there is a possibility of forming a professional team from the Faculty of Medicine and the University Clinical Center of the Republic of Srpska, which would receive further training at Sechenov University, primarily in the field of oncological surgery.
Prof. Reshetov highlighted that the cooperation is particularly focused on the development of oncology and the motivation of future professionals in this field.
“We are committed to motivating students—future oncologists. We have a system that includes student scientific clubs, educational programs, and practical training with leading experts,” Reshetov explained.
He expressed the expectation that students from the Republic of Srpska and Serbia will participate in the international oncology Olympiad organized by this Moscow university.
In addition to the delegation from the Russian Federation, the signing ceremony was also attended by Vice-Rectors of the University of Banja Luka, Prof. Dalibor Kesić, PhD, and Prof. Kristina Pantelić Babić, PhD, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Ranko Škrbić, PhD, as well as the Vice-Dean of the same faculty, Assist. Prof. Milkica Grabež, PhD.
