Faculty members of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Banja Luka participated in the Sixth Conference of the European Labour History Network (ELHN), held from 16 to 19 June 2026 at the University of Barcelona.

Assistant Prof. Bojana Vukojević, PhD, presented the joint research paper entitled “Same Story, New Frames? Media Discourses on Labour Migration from Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1960–1989 vs. 2013–2025”, prepared in collaboration with Prof. Dalibor Savić, PhD, and Prof. Anđela Pepić, PhD.

The research focuses on a comparative analysis of media discourses on labour migration, with particular attention to continuities and changes in the ways the media portrayed population outflows during the socialist period and in the contemporary social context.

The presentation highlighted the transformation of dominant narratives—from the state-managed concept of “temporary employment” and the “myth of return”, characteristic of the 1960s, to contemporary post-socialist frameworks shaped by economic inequalities and the liberalization of visa regimes.

The research was developed within the RETLAMI-SEE project, funded through the European Union’s Horizon Europe program.

The participation of faculty members from the Faculty of Political Sciences in this conference, which brings together leading experts in the fields of labour history and migration studies, represents an important contribution to the international promotion of research conducted at the University of Banja Luka and to the strengthening of its international academic cooperation.
