Researchers from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Banja Luka completed their third study visit to the Research Center for the History of Transformations (RECET) at the University of Vienna, held from 29 June to 3 July 2026.
The visit marked an important step in the second phase of the RETLAMI-SEE project, which focuses on the preparation of joint scientific publications, the development of research infrastructure, and the preparation of new international project proposals.
During their stay in Vienna, researchers from the Faculty of Political Sciences worked together with project partners to advance research on the relationship between labor and migration.
One of the most significant activities was the development of the project’s interactive map. Under the leadership of Mirjana Damjenić Bratić, MA, Senior Teaching Assistant at the Department of Sociology, the structure of the database and the indicators that will form the basis for the visualization of research findings on migration from Bosnia and Herzegovina after 2013 were defined.
A special segment of the visit consisted of tandem writing workshops, during which researchers worked in small teams to prepare co-authored scientific papers, aligning concepts, theoretical frameworks, publication strategies, and the selection of relevant international academic journals.
On the first day of the visit, the research workshop “Globalizing East European Labour History” was held and led by Goran Musić, PhD, and Rory Archer, PhD. During the workshop, participants analyzed transformations of labor, migration processes during and after the Cold War, as well as contemporary forms of labor mobility, placing the findings of the RETLAMI-SEE project within a broader historical and global context.
The participants also defined the next steps in the project’s publication strategy, including preparations for a joint monograph and a special issue of an academic journal ahead of the international conference “Exit, Voice, Labour,” which will be held at the University of Vienna in November.
The visit also included discussions on the preparation of new joint international projects, with particular emphasis on project applications for the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Programme and the European Union’s Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
