The Senate of the University of Banja Luka (UNIBL) appointed Prof. Ranko Škrbić, PhD, as Acting Rector of the University of Banja Luka at an extraordinary session held on August 18, 2026.
Twenty-three members of the Senate voted in favor of Prof. Škrbić, who was the only candidate nominated for the position.
Following the session, the newly appointed Acting Rector said that he would seek to apply the experience he had gained as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine to the further development of the University as a whole, with a particular focus on quality, educational excellence, and international cooperation.
“I told the members of the Senate that, just as I have made every effort to enhance quality and educational excellence, strengthen international cooperation, and promote the development of the Faculty of Medicine, I will continue to do the same for the University,” Škrbić told journalists following the session held at the University Rectorate.
Prof. Škrbić assessed that the outgoing Rector, Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, had successfully led the University.
He announced that a new Senate session is expected to be held within the next few days, at which the University’s new Vice Rectors are also expected to be appointed.
Prior to his appointment as Acting Rector, Prof. Ranko Škrbić, PhD, served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Banja Luka. He has also held a number of other important positions. During his distinguished career, he has authored numerous publications and successfully led a number of projects. He has pursued professional training abroad and delivered numerous lectures at universities around the world and at international scientific conferences.
