Conference on English Language and Literary Studies Held

The two-day International Conference on English Language and Literary Studies, held on the 9th and 10th September 2019 at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Banja Luka, attracted around 40 people.

The fourth conference organized by the Department of English Language and Literature of the Faculty of Philology was attended by experts in anglistic linguistics, Anglo-American and Canadian literature, methodics, cultural studies and translation studies conducted through interdisciplinarity and comprehensive anglistic studies.

It should be emphasized that this year's conference was attended by three well-known experts who, by their presence, made the event even greater and also contributed to the reputation of the Faculty of Philology and the University of Banja Luka. They are literary theorists Sascha Bru from Leuven and Franco Moretti from Laussanne and linguist Predrag Novakov from Novi Sad. This was a unique opportunity for the conference participants to attend plenary lectures by prestigious English language and literature theorists, among which those given by professors Bru, Moretti and Novakov were particularly worthwhile attending. 

The conference participants were addressed by the dean of the Faculty of Philology at the University of Banja Luka, Professor Petar Penda, PhD, and Vice Dean for International Cooperation, Professor Zeljka Babic, PhD, while Assistant Professor Emir Muhic, Head of Department of English Languge and Literature, opened the conference and Professor Tatjana Bijelic, PhD, announced the first plenary lecture. As pointed out by the organizers, this was an opportunity to bolster the grounds for studying English language and literature at the University of Banja Luka.

The first international conference on English language and literature studies was held in June 2013, and has been organized every second year since then. The idea of holding these conferences came from the full-time professors at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Banja Luka: Petar Penda, PhD, Zeljka Babic, PhD, and Tatjana Bijelic, PhD.
