Location of the Austrian Library Discussed

On 11 February 2020, Rector of the University of Banja Luka Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, and Director of the Austrian Cultural Forum Sabine Kernthaller talked about the location and work of the Austrian Library, currently located at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Banja Luka.

Due to the fact that the library is located at premises which the Faculty of Philosophy needs for its work, at the meeting held in the Rector’s office Rector Gajanin said that the plan was to move the Austrian Library to the building under construction at the University campus, where the Faculty of Agriculture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy and the Faculty of Forestry are to be located. It was agreed that this library be temporarily moved even before that if suitable premises are found. 

This was also an opportunity to talk about activities in other fields of cooperation. It was agreed that in the future, the exchange of professors, assistants, students and administrative staff as well as research related activities would be intensified, and that the University of Banja Luka and the Austrian universities should jointly apply for projects funded by the European Union. 

The meeting was also attended by Secretary General of the University Djordje Markez, MA; Dean of the Faculty of Philology Prof. Petar Penda, PhD, and Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy Prof. Srdjan Dusanic, PhD.

The Austrian Library was officially opened on 7 November 2008 and possesses over 5000 books on Austrian literature and history, linguistics, sociology, political sciences, economy and law.  The library book collections also contain sound carriers and the collection of one private Austrian library with international and humanistic focus. The task of this library is also to organize cultural events and other activities.
