The international conference Contemporary Theory and Practice in Construction – STEPGRAD, which opened on 4 June 2026 at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Banja Luka, brought together more than 160 presenters from across the region.
The conference traditionally gathers scientists, researchers, professionals, representatives of institutions, and industry stakeholders with the aim of exchanging knowledge, presenting the latest achievements, and discussing current challenges in the fields of construction and spatial development.
The Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Prof. Saša Čvoro, PhD, expressed his satisfaction that the conference continues to attract an increasing number of participants each year, noting that more than ten presenters from abroad are taking part in this year's event.
According to him, the Faculty is committed to educating highly qualified engineers capable of responding to the challenges of contemporary construction, particularly in a period marked by intensive infrastructure development and urbanization.
Dragan Jevtić, Assistant Minister for Urban Planning and Spatial Development of the Republic of Srpska, emphasized the importance of connecting science, professional practice, and education, stressing that the results and conclusions presented at the conference provide valuable support in the development of legislative and strategic solutions in the fields of spatial planning and construction.
The Conference Director, Assist. Prof. Gordana Jakovljević, PhD, stated that 120 papers had been submitted for this year's conference. Following the peer-review process, 105 scientific and professional papers were accepted for publication in the conference proceedings.
She highlighted that the conference serves as an important platform for the exchange of ideas, the establishment of cooperation, and the initiation of new projects, while also contributing to stronger connections among the academic community, professionals, institutions, and students.
On behalf of the University, participants were addressed by the Vice-Rector for Human and Material Resources, Prof. Dalibor Kesić, PhD.
Particular emphasis of this year’s conference has been placed on digitalization and the green transition in construction, topics that are becoming increasingly important in light of climate change and rapid technological development.
During the two-day conference, participants will present the latest research and projects in the fields of architecture, urban planning, civil engineering, geodesy, and related disciplines through plenary lectures, scientific sessions, and professional discussions.
