The International Symposium “AI Challenges and Threats in Cybersecurity” (IS-AICTC’26) will be held on September 8, 2026, at the premises of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska.
The symposium is organized by the University of Banja Luka, the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska, and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Banja Luka. It will bring together leading experts in artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region, and around the world.
The participation of world-renowned Professor Kim-Kwang Raymond Choo, Cloud Tech Endowed Professor and Vice-Dean for Postgraduate Studies at the College of AI, Cyber and Computing at the University of Texas at San Antonio, gives the event particular international significance.
Professor Choo is a distinguished Fulbright scholar in cybersecurity and critical infrastructure, a leading member of IEEE and ACM, and one of the most highly cited researchers in the field. He has served as editor and co-editor of several leading international scientific journals, as well as associate editor of numerous prestigious IEEE and ACM journals.
He has received numerous awards for his research papers, patents, and editorial contributions, while his research has been supported by leading institutions and agencies worldwide, including those in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
The symposium will also feature distinguished professors, including Prof. Pavle Vuletić from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Prof. Uroš Šošević from the Faculty of Organizational Sciences of the University of Belgrade, Prof. Željko Stević from the University of East Sarajevo, Prof. Boris Damjanović from Union – Nikola Tesla University, and Prof. Dragan Korać from the University of Banja Luka.
Professor Choo’s visit is the result of several years of academic cooperation with Prof. Dragan Korać of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Banja Luka, which has now acquired an institutional dimension, opening up opportunities for new forms of cooperation between the University of Banja Luka and the University of Texas at San Antonio.
As part of the symposium, Professor Choo will be honored with the award of the title of Visiting Professor of the University of Banja Luka. In this way, international academic cooperation will be further institutionalized through his active involvement in the University of Banja Luka academic community.
Professor Choo will also deliver two lectures. The first will focus on opportunities for enhancing academic cooperation and student exchange between the two universities, while the second will address the application of artificial intelligence in cybersecurity and the new challenges that the development of AI technologies brings to the digital environment.
IS-AICTC’26 will provide an opportunity to present the latest scientific findings, while also serving as a platform for connecting researchers, professors, students, and institutions from the region and around the world.
Participants in the symposium will discuss the latest trends in the development and application of AI technologies, as well as the challenges accompanying their rapid development, with particular emphasis on cybersecurity and the security of the digital environment. At the same time, the event will enable the wider community to learn more about the significance, opportunities, and potential threats that the development of artificial intelligence brings to the field of cybersecurity.
Holding this symposium represents an important step toward strengthening the international visibility of the University of Banja Luka and positioning it as a regional center for the development and application of AI technologies in cybersecurity.
At the same time, IS-AICTC’26 further confirms the role of the University of Banja Luka as a hub for connecting the academic community, institutions, and international partners in a field that will play an increasingly important role in the future of the digital society.
