The final conference of the Erasmus+ project ChemTeach, “Improving the Quality of Chemistry Teaching in Secondary Vocational Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, was held at the University of Banja Luka Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics on 27 and 28 October 2026.
The conference was attended by representatives of the Republic of Srpska Pedagogical Institute, principals of partner secondary schools, teachers from secondary schools across the Republic of Srpska, representatives of the management of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, university teachers and associates, pupils and students, and representatives of partner institutions from Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
On the first day, the objectives and results of the three-year project were presented, along with the experiences of partner schools and activities carried out as part of international teacher training programs and three summer schools for pupils held in Bratislava, Banja Luka, and Pardubice.
Particular attention was devoted to the educational materials developed during the project. Teachers were provided with manuals on modern pedagogical approaches and the use of multimedia and digital resources in chemistry teaching, as well as a publication entitled “Chemistry for Every School – Green and Accessible Experiments”. For pupils, a multimedia “Video Guide to the Chemistry Laboratory” was developed to support the preparation, observation, and repeating of laboratory procedures. The publication “Chemistry for Every School” contains 30 experiments with detailed methodological guidance, while the video guide features 31 video demonstrations.
The conference continued with presentations on opportunities to use modern technologies and multimedia content in chemistry teaching. Interactive sessions explored the practical application of the developed resources in secondary schools and ways to further improve them.
On the second day, a coordination meeting of the partner institutions was held, focusing on a review of completed activities, final reporting, the financial and administrative closure of the project, and the sustainability and continued use of its results. Opportunities for continued cooperation between the partner institutions were also discussed, including linking secondary schools with the activities of the European Across Alliance.
The ChemTeach project has been running from 1 December 2023 to 30 November 2026, with the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava as its coordinator. In addition to the University of Banja Luka, the partners include secondary chemical schools in Bratislava and Pardubice, as well as the Grammar School, Medical School, and Technological School in Banja Luka.
The educational materials developed within the project are freely available on the website of the Chemistry Study Program at the University of Banja Luka Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
