Learning objectives | ||||
Introduction to the basic elements of Geodetic astronomy and determination of the coordinates on the Earth's surface using astronomical observations (astronomical coordinates).
Learning outcomes | ||||
Relationship between the equatorial and alt-azimuth coordinate system - obtaining geographical coordinates; converting sidereal to mean solar time and vice versa - calculating zonal time; transition from the catalogue coordinates of the celestial body to its apparent position; derivation of basic formulas of classical astrogeodetic methods for determining longitude and latitude.
Content | ||||
Application of geodetic astronomy in geodesy; basic equations of spherical trigonometry and solving of spherical triangles; celestial sphere; spherical and rectangular coordinates; coordinate systems (horizontal, equatorial, ecliptic and galactic); parallactic (positional) triangle and coordinate transformation; characteristic positions of the celestial body; time systems and timekeeping; phenomena that apparently change the position of the celestial body (refraction, parallax, aberration of light); precession and nutation; proper motion of stars; Earth's polar motion; astronomical catalogs and yearbooks; basic methods of classical astrogeodetic determination of time and coordinates on the Earth's surface; vertical deflections.
