The President of the RS National Assembly visited the University of Banja Luka

The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, Mr. Igor Radojicic, visited the University of Banja Luka on 19 March 2014, and talked to Prof. Stanko Stanic, the Rector of the University, Prof. Valerija Saula, the Vice Rector for international cooperation, and Prof. Simo Jokanovic, the Vice Rector for education and student services respectively, about the burning issues in the field of higher education and the current and planned activities at the University of Banja Luka.



Among other things, there was talk about legal acts in the field of higher education which are currently under procedure, above all about the Draft Law on Vocations and the Proposal of the Rulebook on the Fields of Education. Mr. Radojicic believes that, after accepting suggestions and remarks on originally suggested texts, there are no obstacles for the passing of these legal acts.

The Rector informed the President of the National Assembly that the contract would be signed the following week of the construction of the fourth residence hall for students’ accommodation within the University campus, and in the course of the meeting there was also talk about investment plans and the provision of funds for the construction of the facilities for the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Forestry respectively, as well as for the reconstruction of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the construction of an amphitheatre at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

Mr. Radojicic was also interested in the legal status of the newly-built sports hall, the student centre, and the Genetic Resources Institute. The Rector informed the guest that the drafting of a study on the founding of the University sports club was in hand, whereas the legal position of the dormitories, i.e. the student centre, would be discussed in the coming period through an appropriate legal procedure, primarily a law on student standard.

Moreover, the Rector and the Vice Rectors informed the President of the National Assembly about years of efforts of the University to gain permission to use the facilities of the former military hotel Krajina, which would serve to accommodate visiting professors, and it was agreed to send an official letter to the National Assembly with the aim of speeding up this process.

Furthermore, there was talk about the existing study programs at the University of Banja Luka on all three cycles of studies, as well as about the enrolment policy.
