The students and employees of the University of Banja Luka, who have been active in the past few days in the flood affected areas, cleaning and disinfecting the objects, are helping today at various locations in Doboj, Modrica, Prijedor and Banja Luka.

Early this morning, around 500 volunteers of the University of Banja Luka headed for the aforementioned cities.

In addition, 50 students are engaged in the activities of disinfecting the elementary school in the municipality of Celinac, and 60 of them in the community of Zaluzani, the city of Banja Luka.

During the past few days, the students of the University of Banja Luka have been working hard in the flood affected areas: on Sunday 18 May 2014, 250 students were engaged in the city of Doboj, and 110 in the local communities of Prijecani and Lazarevo, the city of Banja Luka; on Monday 19 May 2014, 100 students were sanitizing the buildings of Prosecutor’s Office, the Municipal Court, the Sveti Sava Elementary School and Ustanicka Street in Doboj; 50 students were volunteers in the refugee settlement of Dobor, the municipality of Modrica, and another 50 in the local community of Dervisi, the city of Banja Luka; yesterday, 50 students were disinfecting the Sveti Sava Elementary School and the Grammar School in Doboj; 70 in the Dobor refugee settlement in Modrica, 110 in the borough of Lazarevo, Banja Luka, and 140 in the local community of Gomjenica, the city of Prijedor.
These activities of the students and employees of the University of Banja Luka will continue in the following days. The representatives of the University of Banja Luka Headquarters for coordination of assistance to the people affected by the floods are constantly on the terrain with students, and at least once a day the requests for engagement of students and employees for the following days are being deliberated.
The students depart from the Campus of the University of Banja Luka, Bulevar Vojvode Petra Bojovica 1a. Before departing, students are provided with protection equipment and tools, and in each group there is a coordinator responsible for contacting the Headquarters for coordination assistance to the people affected by the floods. All volunteers are acquainted with the guidelines on disinfection and behavior in the flood affected areas. Upon their return, their clothes, footwear and equipment are decontaminated.

The problem of transporting these volunteers to the flood affected areas is solved in the way that the University used its budget for these purposes. The Nikola Tesla Student Centre provided students with lunch packages, while the provision of equipment and tools is not still sufficient, and any kind of help is highly appreciated.
It should be noted that numerous members of the staff of the Faculties/ Academy gather everyday, whether on their own initiative or upon the agreement with the Headquarters for the coordination of assistance, in order to help their colleagues of the University who are also affected by unprecedented floods.
