Commemoration and laying of wreaths in memory of students and workers of the University
University of Banja LukaGeneralWith commemoration service and laying of wreaths at the Commemoration plaque containing the names of fallen students and workers of the University of Banja Luka who died in the last homeland war as members of the Students' brigade and regular soldiers of the Army of Republika Srpska, the official celebrating of the 49 years of the University of Banja Luka started on the 6th November 2024.
,,In the difficult war years our students and workers could have chosen some other path, however, the faith decided they should embed their lives into the foundations of the Republic of Srpska. In these hard moments we are gathered here to honor all the fallen workers and students of the University of Banja Luka, whose lives were searching for justice and knowledge, but were, sadly, ended by the enemy“, said Rector of the University, prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD.
„It is our additional obligation to protect Republic of Srpska, as we owe it to all those who gave their lives for it. We shall protect Republic of Srpska and we hope we shall celebrate its 100 years in peace“, concluded Rector Gajanin.
The Minister for Scientific and Technological Development and High Education of the Republic of Srpska, docent Željko Budimir, PhD, said that Republic of Srpska is defended with the successes of the University and students who understand the Republic of Srpska and fight for its future.
„It is important to cherish the culture of remembrance and the culture of continuity and lasting of the Republic of Srpska“, concluded Budimir.
Minister of Labor, Veterans and Social Care of the Republic of Srpska, Danijel Egić, said that today we remember with sadness all the fallen soldiers of the Students' brigade.
„The University originates all ideas that serve for preserving the Republic of Srpska in peace, ideas that contribute to its development“, pointed Egić.
Zdravko Jorgić, father of the killed student, said that even after 30 years he still hasn't found the body of his son, who went missing in Vozuća area. He was 21 at the time, and a student of Banja Luka University.
Along with members of Rector's team and ministers Egić and Budimir, the wreaths were laid at the Commemoration plaque also by representatives of veterans' organizations of Banja Luka and Republic of Srpska, family members of killed workers and students, as well as an advisor to the RS President, Mr. Marko Romić, and assistant ministers in the RS Government, Nataša Cvijanović and Helena Kerkez.
