Lecturer/Associate (practicals)
Prerequisite Form of prerequisites
Hydrology Passed exam
Learning objectives
Extending knowledge in hydrology based on rainfall-runoff relationship. Getting knowledge with more complex hydrological calculations and analysis as well as with hydrological modelling and their connections with applied disciplines of hydraulic engineering
Learning outcomes
Student are capable to individually conduct hydrological studies and to prepare hydrological calculations needed for planning and design of hydraulic structures and water management systems.
Content
Hydrology postition in the field of hydraulic engineering and water management. Hydrological calculations and analysis. Hydrological modelling: definition, division and aplications. Definition of design precipitation and runoff. Runoff intensity - duration - return period. Spatial precipitation distribution. Effective rainfall. Unit hydrographs. Sinthetic unit hydrographs. Rational method, specifics of urban hydrology. Road drainage. Introduction to EPA SWMM. Examples of more complex hydrological models, introduction to HEC HMS. Evapotranspiration. Risk and probability of hydraulic structures and systems. Uncertainty in hydrological calculations. Analysis of mean, high and low waters. Hydrological studies> practical examples.
Teaching Methods
Classroom lectures with the presentation technology. Methodological units are accompanied by appropriate descriptive or computational examples or real-life examples from practice. Exercise classes begin with short explanations, and then students do assignments individually or in small groups. Students have access to lecture material and an explained procedure for solving assignments.
