Learning objectives
The goal of the course is for the student to master the basic characteristics of the soil, as well as the factors and conditions that affect soil formation. The goal is to acquaint students with the importance of soil in forestry.
Learning outcomes
The student acquires the necessary knowledge about the factors that influence the formation of soil, its morphological, physical and chemical characteristics. He also gets a clear idea of the role soil and its flora and fauna in the cycle of biogenic macro and microelements necessary for growth and development of plant species. The student understands the fertility and productivity of the soil and its importance preservation of this natural resource. It is capable of independent description of soil in the field, research of physical and chemical properties in the field, and sampling of materials for laboratory soil studies.
Content
Introduction; Pedogenetic factors: Geological substrate, Relief, Climate, Vegetation, Man and Weather. Pedogenetic processes; Soil texture (laboratory determination); Soil structure (laboratory determination); Soil density, cohesion, hardness, stickiness, plasticity land; Soil porosity; Water in the soil; Water constants; Thermal properties land; Humus in soil (laboratory determination); Soil reaction (laboratory determination); Adsorptive soil complex (laboratory determination); Content and significance biogenic macro and microelements (laboratory determination); Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium in the soil.

Evaluation and grading
The student is obliged to attend classes and exercises. He passes the tests in writing and they are related to teaching units that were covered in the exercises. The student is obliged to attend field classes and to independently complete the pedological forms that contain analysis of morphology and certain physical - chemical properties of pedological profiles, and to characterize the factors and conditions of education of the given type land. The final exam refers only to theoretical questions.
