A Conference of Awarded Professors and Teaching Assistants of the University Held

Professors and teaching assistants of the University of Banja Luka, winners of monetary awards based on international results in scientific research and educational work for 2020, presented their scientific papers and projects at the conference held on 15 November 2021 in the lecturing hall of the Faculty of Political Science, University of Banja Luka.

In his welcome speech, the rector of the University of Banja Luka, Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, congratulated the awarded professors and teaching assistants.

According to the rector, the University will continue to promote the scientific work of professors and teaching assistants in the forthcoming years

As Gajanin pointed out, this conference is a great opportunity for young colleagues who are just entering the academic community to get information and advice from their older colleagues.

Vice-Rector for Scientific Research and Development of the University Prof. Goran Latinović, PhD, emphasized that the monetary fund for awards was increased by 243 percent compared to 2018, when the awards were presented for the first time.

„This year we awarded altogether 77 professors and teaching assistants of the University­­­­­­­­­­­“, Latinoić said.

Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Banja Luka, Ivan Samelak, PhD, published a paper titled "Geochromatographic migration of oil pollution from a heating plant to river sediments" in the German journal "Environmental Chemistry Letters", impact factor of which is 9,027, and won the first prize in the category of awarded professors and teaching assistants of the University who are the authors of indexed scientific research.

„This award is the crown of work and at the same time a motivation for further scientific research“, said Assistant Professor Samelak.

Associate Professor at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy Prof. Miroslav Malinović, PhD, took part in the project Horizon 2020 titled "To strengthen the effectiveness and optimize the services of all partners in an innovative and open Euraxess network" and is one of the winners for taking part in international research projects.

According to Professor Malinović, this is a project that deals with the improvement and enhancement of the infrastructure and working environment for scientists, and mobility in Europe, but also worldwide.

„The project is implemented through the EURAXESS Office at the University, which promotes the goals of the European Commission, including the creation of an open and sustainable working environment for scientists and researchers. A total of 40 partner institutions participate in the project worth EUR 3.4 million“, Prof. Malinović said.

At the third session held on 1 November 2021, the Steering Board of the University og Banja Luka issued decisions on monetary awards to professors and teaching assistants of the University for 2020. Awards were allocated in three categories, and the total value of the awards is BAM 98,439.50. Thus, 58 professors and teaching assistants who are the authors of the indexed scientific work were awarded, with a total amount of BAM 85,939.50. Professors and teaching assistants who were managers, coordinators or participants in international research projects were also awarded. In this category, BAM 9,000 were awarded to 14 professors and teaching assistants of the University of Banja Luka. Five professors who are coordinators or contact persons in Erasmus+ projects - Key Action 2 - Capacity Building, were awarded a total of BAM 3,500.

The conference was organized as part of the ceremony dedicated to 46 years of work and development of the University of Banja Luka.
