Engineering Mechanics 1 | Prerequisit for taking the course is to submit and defend semestral assignments. Prerequisite for taking the exam is to get a positive grade.
Learning objectives | ||||
Understanding the essential laws and methods of mechanics of deformable bodies. Development of creativity and ability to independently formulate and solve engineering problems. Ability to recognize mechanical behaviour of solid deformable materials and structures.
Learning outcomes | ||||
Student is able and competent to analyze and solve problems of mechanics of elastic deformable body, analyze and solve simple line systems (determines the state of their kinematic and static quantities, as well as their stability).
Content | ||||
Axial stress within the limits of elasticity. Deformation analysis. Beam theory. Geometric characteristics of the cross sections. Normal stresses in the beam exposed to bending. Shear stresses in bending. Deflection of a beam exposed to bending. Determination of deflection and inclination by the moment surface method. Asymmetric cross section and the notion of shear center. Statically undefined structures. Pure bending of the beam in a plane that is not the symmetry plane. Bending of the beam in main planes that are not the symmetry planes. Complex stress, bending with axial stress. Determination of the neutral axis, the core of the cross section.
Teaching Methods | ||||
Interactive lectures and exercises with work on individual assignments. Consultations.
Literature | ||||
| ||||
Evaluation and grading
It is compulsory to solve and defend 2 project assignments during the semester. The projects must be submitted and defended by the start of next semester. If the students do not pass colloquiums during the semester, they can take correctional colloquiums during the regular eximination period. |
