Learning objectives | ||||
The main goal of the course is to acquaint students with: the social context of youth delinquency; contemporary etiological views on juvenile delinquency; roles, specifics, methods, concepts, social work programs in the assessment, prevention, treatment and social protection of juvenile delinquents. Within this course, students will be introduced to the contents related to the obligations and duties of social workers in the field of youth crime and criminal protection of children and minors. | ||||
Learning outcomes | ||||
Acquisition of scientifically and practically usable knowledge about modern theoretical-methodological and conceptual approaches in social work with juvenile delinquents, knowledge of basic legal solutions in the field of juvenile delinquency and criminal protection of children and juveniles. | ||||

Course content by weeks: • Juvenile delinquency as a social deviation and social problem; • The social context of juvenile delinquency in transitional societies; • Contemporary approaches to the etiology of juvenile delinquency; • The concept of risk and protection factors; • Roles and specifics of social work in the social response to juvenile delinquency; • Conceptual-methodological bases of social work in the prevention of juvenile delinquency; • Prevention strategies focused on risk and protective factors; • Social work in the assessment of juvenile delinquents; • Effective social work programs in the treatment of juvenile delinquents; • Social work in open and institutional protection of juvenile delinquents; • Reform of the social protection system for juvenile offenders; • Juvenile delinquency as a social deviation and social problem; • Children in conflict with the law • Protection of children and juveniles in criminal proceedings; • Treatment of children and juveniles in criminal proceedings. | ||||

Evaluation and grading | ||||
Checking knowledge and determining how active students are in teaching is done throughout the semester. Knowledge is tested using two colloquia, and students' activity is expressed through writing seminar papers, regular attendance, participation in debates, preparation of presentations and other forms of creative participation in the teaching process. In this way, students fulfill the pre-examination obligations through which they can gain 50 points (two colloquia of 20 points each, a seminar paper of 5 points and an orderly and active attendance of 5 points). The final exam is conducted orally and it tests knowledge from the entire material, and carries a maximum of 50 points. The final grade is performed by adding the points from the pre-exam obligations and the points from the exam. |
